Frequently asked questions

Who joins the RPM Program?

Hiring individuals with diverse perspectives and experiences allows Facebook to build better products for our global users. RPMs are hired from various industries with many years of work experience or they can be recent graduates. We also actively seek applicants with no tech experience. RPM is suited for individuals completely new to the product manager (PM) function. Individuals with more than 1 year of PM experience, inclusive of PM internships, should apply for Product Manager roles listed at Facebook Careers.

How long is the RPM Program?

The program lasts 18 months, and has 3 different Product Management rotations.

How is Product Management at Facebook different from other companies?

Facebook optimizes for impact. Our products affect billions of people. We have a responsibility to build high-caliber, daring, empathetic, and collaborative products. The RPM program provides experience, variety and ownership to impact those products, along with an incredibly supportive community which lasts long after the program ends.
RPMs and alums regularly connect outside of work, whether that be in the Bay Area, Seattle, NYC or London. The RPM community also organizes guest-speakers to give talks at Facebook and travel abroad together to research new technology trends around the world.

What does a ‘day in the life’ of a Facebook RPM look like?

There really is no 'typical' day—your days will vary depending on what part of a product's lifecycle you're in. Some of the core responsibilities of RPMs include enabling your team to execute well, ensuring a great product experience and communicating your team’s impact across the company.

What kind of mentorship is available to RPMs?

Mentorship is at the core of the RPM program. Each RPM has a PM manager who stays with them throughout their program experience. Your manager is responsible for making sure you're developing and growing in your career. In addition, each rotation is staffed with a PM mentor to guide you through the more tactical pieces of the day-to-day job. The program also provides other resources, such as learning and development classes, internal and external speakers and learnings from peers to help you grow into a well-rounded, versatile and innovative product thinker.

What happens after the program?

After the program, RPMs utilize their experience, knowledge, and extensive network to identify and join a product team. Facebook makes an investment in each of its RPMs to help them continue making tremendous impact at the company.

How do I join the RPM program?

Thank you for your interest in our program! We hire RPMs once a year for two start dates in the following calendar year. There are four Facebook offices which support RPMs: Menlo Park, Seattle, New York City, and London. Individuals interested in applying should submit their application through Facebook Careers to the appropriate requisition. There is one requisition posted for all North American sites and one requisition posted for our London site. Important dates to note:

August 3, 2020: Applications Open at 8 AM Pacific

August 10, 2020: Application Deadline for North America at 5 PM Pacific

August 31, 2020: Application Deadline for London at 5 PM BST

January 4, 2021: First start date

July 5, 2021: Second start date

Applicants will only be considered for the requisition to which they applied. For example, if you miss the application deadline for North America and you apply for London, you will only be considered for London. We review applications on a rolling basis and individuals moving forward will receive communication from recruiting. If candidates move forward they will be required to identify their preferred office location and start date(s). We expect to conclude the hiring process by early November so if you have not heard about the status of your application by then we encourage you to reapply in a future cycle.

Is RPM a remote-eligible position?

The RPM program is developmental in nature, requiring on-the-job learning across various product groups. RPM is not a remote-eligible position. All applicants must be able to relocate to Menlo Park, Seattle, New York City, or London upon hire. Any work from home directives or delays in relocation due to current events will be communicated to successful hires but applicants should plan to relocate by their start date.

What resources do you suggest as I consider prepping for the interview process?

Product management interviews are different than traditional behavior-based interviews. We will explore your ability to think about products and use data to make informed decisions. To better understand what we might look for, we suggest reading Cracking the PM Interview and Decode and Conquer, two resources current RPMs say were valuable during their interview preparation. Candidates who enter the recruiting process will receive a list of additional resources from their recruiter.

How can I check the status of my application?

You can login to your Career Profile at www.facebookrecruiting.com at any time to check the status of your application. Use the “help” function at the bottom of that page if you experience issues logging into your account.
